Big Bear Challenge

Nr. Coventry, Warwickshire.

Ryton Rd, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry, CV8 3BH

What is the Big Bear Challenge, where is it and when is it?

Big Bear Challenge is a 6 hour running event at Ryton Pools Country Park, Ryton Road, Bubbenhall, Coventry, CV8 3BG on Thursday 7th February 2019 at 09:00.

How far is the race?

You decide! The 3.3-mile out and back loop at Ryton Pools Country Park means your race can be just over 5k or, given the relatively flat nature of the course, potentially 49.5 miles! You decide how many laps you are going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you're looking to cover a marathon distance you'll need to complete 8 laps (26.4 miles) and a half marathon will be 4 laps (13.2 miles).

Early Bird fee (01/02/18 - 01/03/18) - £20 (£22 unaffiliated)
Standard fee (02/03/18 - 07/01/19) - £23 (£25 unaffiliated)
Late Fee - (08/01/19 - 05/02/19) £28 (£30 unaffiliated)
No entries on the day

There is an entry limit. Once the event gets down to the last places we'll endeavor to make people aware through social media and emails (join the mailing list!). Once the event is full a waiting list will be created. Contact for information on this.

You do have to pay to park (£3.00 at the time of writing). This money goes directly to the country parks, they are great spaces that do need money and this is their main revenue stream. That said, be a hero and car share, save money and the world!

Course map/ course description

The course route can be found here. You can see the conditions of the course from the photos below. In summary, it's relatively flat with a few little rises that you might not notice much on the first lap, but you might do at the end of 6 hours! Underfoot is crushed stone with a very small section of single track and a few areas that are a little looser than others. It is a very runnable course.

Has the event been run before?

Yes! We held the inaugural Big Bear Challenge on Thursday 1st February 2018 and it was great fun. Check out the photos and a blog post about the event. If you look at our Facebook group and page you'll find lots of good commentary on the event as well.

Is there a GPX file?

Yes. Here it is - GPX file
